In a hard fought contest, Spartak overcame Amkar Perm’s home stronghold to claim a 3-1 victory in match day ten of the Sogaz Championship of Russia. With the result the Red-Whites pull within two points of the top of the table CSKA whom they face 7 October in another chapter of the storied Moscow derby.

Given the testing schedule this week that sees his side in action on Tuesday against Celtic in the Champions League, Spartak manager Unai Emery made five changes to his line-up with Sergei Bryzgalov, Demy de Zeeuw, Kim Källström, Jano Ananidze and Ari entering for Marek Suchý, José Manuel Jurado, Aiden McGeady, Rômulo and Artem Dzyuba.

Played in rainy conditions, Amkar was clearly in an attacking mode early with Pavel Ignatovich unable to convert from close range. A formidable opponent in front of their supporters, Amkar went out in front 1-0 at midpoint of the opening half as corner from the left bounded to the well outside of the area on right where twenty-three year old Pavel Ignatovich rifled a low effort to the bottom corner of the net. Eleven minutes later Michal Breznaník fouled Demy de Zeeuw just beyond the area and in the resulting free-kick Kim Källström curled a sublime left-footed effort into the net. Three minutes shy of the break, match day referee Igor Egorov had no other option that issue Amkar’s Sergei Narubin a straight red card when the ‘keeper clearly lost his bearing and blocked Emmanuel Emenike’s effort despite being a number of metres beyond the area.

After the break Amkar bunkered into a firm defending stance and allowed few opportunities until seven minutes past the hour when a right winged cross rattled around the box before Artem Dzyuba slid the ball clear of the defenders for Ari and the required professional finish. In the fifth minute of added-time Artem Dzyuba displayed his vast potential as he accepted the ball on the left and held off defenders before providing for Ari on the right, then signalling for the return cross which masterfully headed into the net to complete the 3-1 victory.
