Spartak’s perfect start to the new campaign came to an end as they played host Kuban Krasnodar to a 2-2 draw, honours even, in match day four of the Sogaz Championship of Russia. With the result the Red-Whites share the top of the table with Rostov before the heading to the international break.

Following the adage of not changing what works, Spartak manager Valeriy Karpin made no changes his most recent line-up and saw the early stages of the contest maintained composed with niether side able to muster a reasonable attacking effort. Near the mid point Kuban began to show success from the right flank with former Marseille striker Djibril Cissé forcing Spartak goalkeeper Sergey Pesyakov into a top notch save. After withstanding that brief test, the Red-Whites took the 1-0 lead as José Manuel Jurado, from the right side of the area, curled a masterful cross that Emmanuel Emenike nodded into the net.

Play continued at a measured pace after the break and searching for great attacking venom Mr. Karpin summoned Aras Özbiliz for Pavel Yakovlev but it was the hosts who began to press forward. Six minutes past the hour Charles Kaboré, a Marseille alumni as well with Kuban, split the Spartak defenders with a perfect through ball for Ibrahima Baldé to which the twenty-four year old Senegalese striker sent the equaliser to bottom right corner. Buoyed with confidence Kuban pressed forward and took the one goal advantage five minutes later as corner from the right rattled around the box before veteran Ángel Dealbert Ibáñez shuttled it into the net. With his side behind for the first time this year the Spartak tactician immediately called upon Yura Movsisyan for Emmanuel Emenike and without fail he etched his name on the match with a stunning goal that is immediately a highlight of the early season.. Following a turnover, the Armenian international cut inside from the left channel and riveting an effort from thirty metres into the top right corner. After withstanding late pressure the final whistle sounded the match concluding as a 2-2 draw, honours even. Prepared by John Davies for Spartak Moscow.
